The Honourable Hugh Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation earlier today participated in the 26th Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).
The Meeting discussed priorities for the upcoming 2022-2025 Plan of Action for cooperation and the Declaration of the 9th Summit of ACS to be held in 2022, against the background of the Coronavirus pandemic and a dire socio-economic situation across the Greater Caribbean. Special emphasis was placed on the preservation of the Caribbean Sea, tourism, digital transformation and air and maritime connectivity and Post-Covidhealth and economic recovery. Member countries also addressed other matters including the work of the various ACS Special Committees and admitted Kuwait as the latest observer state to the Organisation.
Guyana was elected to serve as Vice Chairman of the Special Committees on Disaster Risk Reduction and Trade and External Economic Relations, respectively and will do so for a period of one year.
The 26th Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Council was held virtually and chaired by the Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic. At the meeting’s conclusion, the chairmanship of the Council was handed over to Mexico.
