The first meeting of the Joint Commission as envisioned by the Joint Declaration of Argyle for Dialogue and Peace. This was agreed upon following the meeting between the President of Guyana, His Excellency Dr Irfaan Ali and the President of Venezuela, HE Nicolás Maduro on December 14, 2023, in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Joint Commission of the Foreign Ministers and technical persons from the two States are expected to address matters “as mutually agreed” during today’s meeting in Brasilia, Brazil.
Guyana’s delegation is led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd.
Brazil is facilitating the meeting through its Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira, while the United Nations (UN) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) are attending as observers.
Guyana remains fully committed to the principles of the Argyle Declaration, particularly the maintenance of peace in Latin America and the Caribbean.
