The Extraordinary Ambassador, the Plenipotentiary of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to Kuwait, Dr. Shamir on Guyanese relations – described excellent, strong and solid relations between Guyana and Kuwait through a long history of wonderful diplomatic relations, noting that high-level mutual visits reflect the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries, pointing to the existence of 8 agreements leading Bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
Ally pointed out, in an exclusive interview with Al-Anbaa, that Kuwait is one of the main players in the region and is internationally known as the peace-maker, noting that it is a small nation with a big heart and its role is appreciated and praised by the international community, explaining that Kuwait on the humanitarian level plays a unique role in relief for all those in need and alleviate the pain of the afflicted and affected by conflict areas, indicating that Guyana is a country of unique investment opportunities and waiting for Kuwaiti businessmen and investors.
He pointed out that Kuwait was a pioneer in the fight against the emerging “Corona” virus with a set of distinguished measures that coincided at the time and the efforts of medical staff, which were praised, explaining that his country recorded 209 confirmed cases of Corona virus, including 78 active cases, 107 recovery and 12 deaths. How do you describe Kuwaiti-Guyanese relations and the most prominent stages of their development and future prospects?
* Our relationship with Kuwait has been characterized by strength and durability through a long history of brilliant diplomatic relations that began on August 17, 1995, and since then bilateral relations have developed continuously and remarkably because they are built on solid foundations of friendship, trust and mutual respect.
High-level exchanged visits reflect the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries. On January 17, 2010, the Head of State of Guyana Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo and his team visited Kuwait. On July 19, 2010, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Nasser Al-Mohammad, when he was Prime minister, visited Guyana with a team of 10 high-ranking officials.
On January 25th, we celebrated in “Kuwait Motor Town” the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Guyana, 25th anniversary for the establishment of diplomatic relations with Kuwait and 9th anniversary of the opening of our embassy in Kuwait. This unique celebration was marked by the fact that we set a new record in the Guinness Book of Records in terms of pasting the largest number of stickers on a family car, and the total number of stickers is estimated at 41,543 stickers.
In general, our relationship with Kuwait is excellent and a promising future awaits it. Kuwait, with its potential, will find in Guyana a country of unique investment opportunities, Guyana is still waiting for Kuwaiti businessmen and investors, given its richness in natural resources and precious metals.
Tell us about the most prominent areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries?
٭ Consultations, financial aid, and grants are among the most prominent areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Kuwaiti charitable and humanitarian work is the subject of praise and appreciation of the international community and Kuwait’s white hands are visible in various parts of the world.
We have cooperation with the Kuwait Investment Authority, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the Kuwaiti Zakat House.
Bilateral agreements
How many agreements and memoranda of understanding lead the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries?
٭ We have 8 agreements signed with Kuwait that lead bilateral relations between the two countries, bilateral consultations, joint committee for cooperation, culture and art, mutual protection for investment, trade, avoiding double taxation, air services and economic and technical cooperation, and we have a ninth agreement ready to sign with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs related to mutual exemption From entry visa to holders of diplomatic and private passports.
What is the latest news about the emerging coronavirus in Guyana and the latest relevant statistics?
* The government and relevant authorities in Guyana are closely monitoring the situations of the new Corona virus and with serious follow-up. The Ministry of Public Health meets with a high-level COVID-19 team headed by the Prime Minister once every three days to assess the situation and update procedures, including closures, air traffic and other precautionary measures taken by the state to prevent and reduce the spread of the new Corona virus, and with regard to the latest statistics, to date we have 209 confirmed cases of corona virus, including 78 active cases, 107 recovery and 12 deaths.
How many children of the Guyanese community are here in Kuwait, and how safe do they feel here?
٭ We have 6 Guyanese in Kuwait, the Ambassador, his wife, Dr. Maryann, the First secretary of the embassy, his wife, his son, and another Guyanese citizen working in Halliburton Company, and in the region in general we find that we have 87 citizens in Saudi Arabia, 16 in the UAE, 7 in Qatar, 3 in Bahrain, 2 in Egypt and one in Lebanon and another in Iran.
We all feel safe and secure in Kuwait through the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince and the efforts of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and the Ministers.
How do you see the measures taken by Kuwait to combat, prevent and limit the spread of the new Corona virus?
٭ Kuwait was a forerunner with a set of distinguished measures that coincided at the time in order to protect the citizen and the resident, even if the procedures were difficult but fair.
I would like to pay tribute to the efforts of the Kuwaiti government, the concerned authorities, the Minister of Health, and medical teams in the front lines to confront the virus.
What is the extent of your cooperation with your colleagues in the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs?
٭ From my first day in Kuwait, to find all backup and support from colleagues in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and they did not hesitate to overcome any obstacle facing us. In general, we are in constant and continuous contact with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
How do you evaluate the role that Kuwait plays in terms of conflict resolution and peace, as well as its global humanitarian role?
٭ Kuwait is one of the main players in the region in terms of conflict resolution and peace, thanks to the wise leadership of His Highness. This role is appreciated and praised by the international community. Kuwait is known internationally as the peace-maker, as it is a small humanitarian nation with a big heart.
As for the humanitarian role of Kuwait, you will find that Kuwait plays a unique role in providing relief to all in need and alleviating the pain of the afflicted and affected by conflict areas.

Tell us about the most important investment opportunities in Guyana?
Guyana is a country rich in natural resources and precious metals, which are still unexploited and undiscovered, and this in itself represents a promising opportunity for the Kuwaiti investor.
The government has endeavored to provide a suitable and safe environment for successful investments, specifically in the fields of oil, gas, gold, diamonds, bauxite, manganese, agriculture, and hotel construction. We will be happy to receive the Kuwaiti investor and provide him with all the facilities he needs.
